Meet the team aiming to disrupt the event space for millennials across the world

What is your project about?

Tristan: TYPE stands for The Young Professional Events. Our aim is be the world’s first events platform tailored to millennials. The goal at the heart of TYPE is to provide opportunities for personal growth, and to enhance the overall millennial networking experience as a young professional. By changing the dynamic of existing networking events, we aim to shift the perception away from a dull and concrete past. Using our own personal experiences and diverse team, we seek to develop diverse and high quality events that positively impacts on wellbeing, social diversity and mobility, community spirit and cohesion, and civic pride in millennials.

Where did the original idea stem from?

Tristan: The initial event that got the ball rolling was my first day working in the city after graduating. I found myself in a pub in Moorgate with a pint that cost me £6.80 and I was surrounded by a very mono-cultural group of 40/50 somethings. It was rather difficult for me to build my network in finance amongst my own demographic, simply because there was nowhere you could go to do so. I then kept thinking, I wish someone would just make something I could go to, why hasn't someone done this already? I told my Dad about the idea and he said, 'Well, what is stopping you?'.

What challenges have you experienced so far in your journey?

Tristan: The biggest challenge I have faced is recruiting the right people to make the dream work! It's key with any big project like this that you have talented and ambitious people in your corner - I spent 18 months working on the project alone, as I wanted to ensure I had the right people on board. Then all at once back in December, I found five incredibly creative and driven individuals. In terms of marketing, many recent changes with Twitter and Facebook have made traditional ways of building a brand online not as easy as it used to be!

What are you trying to achieve by the end of the year?

Tristan: By the end of this year, we hope to have made a difference to as many young professionals as possible through offering up to four networking events suited to the millennial audience. We want to grow TYPE as a brand and get our aims and ambitions seen by millennials across London.

What do you want the legacy of your project to be known for?

Tristan: We hope that our legacy will be known for changing the networking game; turning your average networking event into something worthwhile, enjoyable and beneficial to a millennials career. We’ll be known for offering frequent and high quality events that a young professional can always rely on.
